Review: Yours to Keep

Yours to Keep
Yours to Keep by Serena Bell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Given by the publisher for an honest review

Yours to Keep is such a wonderful sweet story! It's probably one of the sweetest stories I have ever read!!

It's a true romance!

>>Ana has been through so much..She keeps trying to help her family but also build a life for herself. She tries to become someone better someone bigger..She wants what everyone wants. A Life. Love. A Future. She wants to matter and not to be ignored or be put aside..But we don't always get what we,do we? That's what it feels like to Ana..She keeps trying and working hard, but she doesn't see the light..She doesn't see a happy future,no matter how much she hopes..Until Ethan..

>>Ethan is such a beautiful character. He is a single dad,who wants to be a present father. But his son doesn't make it easy..Then again, what teenager does?!..He is a kind man,who has been hurt in the past. I cannot imagine how a man,who lost his wife, keeps going on,while raising his son alone..Incidents like that are so..I can't comprehend the difficulties that person has to overcome..Unimaginable..Regarding love, Ethan is like Ana.He doesn't see it happening to him again. He doesn't believe in it any more. Until he meets Ana,who rises so strong emotions within him.He wants to protect her,to love her,to hold her,to make her want him as much as he wants her..

Because he is hers. And he wants her to be his.

It' so very beautiful!! I can't help but smile, every time I think about this book..

For all of you who love Romance, this is a Must-Read!

My Brother My Rival by Eve Rabi : The Blog Tour

Book: My Brother My Rival #1

Synopsis:
Cody Garrett, a former Navy SEAL, has never met a skirt he didn’t fancy. His six-pack, rugged looks and bad boy image ensures a steady stream of hot babes waiting to slip him their phone numbers wherever he goes.
So, he is confused when Bridie Barker refuses to go on a date with him.
It’s not like she’s a stunning beauty or something. According to him, her ears are big, she’s well-rounded and she’s not even a D-cup.
In spite of her shortcomings, the more she pushes him away, the more he finds himself thinking of her.

Twenty-year-old Bridie Barker has control issues. Every detail in her life is planned.
Her closet is color-coded and she has an array of storage containers, to ensure that everything is in its correct place.
Her whole world is black and white, and grey areas are a no-no.

When she meets the warm and grounded Scott Garrett, she thinks she has found her soul mate. Unfortunately, and to her disappointment, things don’t pan out with Scott.
While waiting tables, she has a disastrous run-in with his brother, Wild Boy Cody Garrett, King of Body Shots, who parties every night with a different girl.
Even though he’s good to look at and makes her laugh, she turns down his advances as he’s clearly the tag-and-release kind of guy.
Besides, she is pretty sure he owns not a single storage container, and she’s certain that his closet is not color-coded.
Problem is, Cody Garrett finds her rejection an aphrodisiac and pursues her.

My Review:
First, I would like to state that this book was hard for me to review. My opinion always changed, to be honest.
On the one hand, I liked the lovestory between Cody and Birdie and all their differences. I enjoyed Cody pursuing her so relentlessly. Generally I enjoyed the whole book except the ending.
On the other hand, I found many things infuriating. I understand that Cody is a player and he likes having crazy fun. I understand all that. But what I don’t understand is why we had to read about so many body shots. It was like he was a teenager and he hasn’t seen a woman’s body before. All these shots really brought me down. However, the most infuriating thing was the ending.  There was absolutely no loyalty to Cody. No matter how good or bad boyfriend/fiancée he was, having a child is an entire different issue. No one has the right to take that away from him. And no one seemed to understand that or think about Cody and his feelings. His parents were unacceptable. Scott acted like a thief. And Birdie made one mistake after the other. Seriously, what were people thinking?
After I finished the book, I was left mad and thinking “What the hell just happened? What is wrong with people?”.
I liked the general concept with the 2 brothers who were rivals for Birdie’s affections. I liked that they were coming from different childhoods and that Cody’s family created problems. However, I don’t really get how the ending happened. I understand why, I guess.
I’m just very ambivalent about it. The second book is much much better and I actually enjoyed it!

Book: My Brother My Rival #2

Synopsis:
Years ago, Cody Garrett’s heart was ripped to shreds when Bridie ditched him and married his brother, Scott.
With great difficulty, he moved on and rebuilt his life without her, severing all ties with his brother because of their betrayal.
Now, Scott, his brother, is ill and a threat to his wife and children.
Cody is forced to step in and move them into his house.
Being physically so close to Bridie, and spending time alone with her, brings back a flood of memories, and he finds it a daily struggle to contain his feelings for his brother’s wife.

To Bridie, who likes to put things (and people) in perspective, Cody Garrett was filed under ‘Cheat’ and she too moved on with her life.
But while living with him, she stumbles upon secrets involving Cody and her, that changes everything.
Now, she must fight her feeling for Cody and remain true to her marriage.

My Review:
After reading the first book, I was really anxious to read this one. But it surpassed the first book by far..And I’m very glad about it!
It was so very mysterious!! I was giddy just by reading it!
I loved the fact that Scott suddenly got turned to the bad guy (In my opinion he is! Cody was right! The dude stole his life!!). Anyway, I loved how the roles got reversed!
I just loved everyone’s reactions to everything…I’m not going to claim that they have morals because none of them has. Except Jenna maybe. She hid the truth, but at least everyone knew where they stand with her. But I did like that Cody grew up. Generally I liked all the mystery this book had.
Again, I didn’t like the ending. Cody honestly deserves a break and the poor guy never got it. Yeah he kinda won the war, but the circumstances sucked.
It was a book that revealed all the dirty secrets and who everyone really was. I liked the truth of it!

My Character Interview with Cody!!

Hello Cody! It’s nice to have you here with me today!

·        Let’s start with an easy question..What was your first impression of Bridie?
Mmm, let’s see…stuck up…moody …a ball buster…but sexy with nice tits. I mean hips.      And legs. And lips. Hey, I’m being honest here.

·      When you found out about Bridie’s date with your brother, how did you feel? What was going on in your mind?
“Frowns*Of course I was troubled a bit. A  lot.
I hadn’t realized it before, but after meeting Bridie, I came to the conclusion that I’m the jealous type.
If Scott wasn’t my li’l brother, man, things would have got ugly. I would have kicked the shit out of him. Seriously. Didn’t need any solid reason, I just would have. But Scotty, he had his shit together and he pulled chicks like crazy, so I was always a little concerned when I saw him and Bridie with their heads together, laughing...
I always believed that he could take Bridie away from me.
He was always a threat. Always my rival.

·     After reading your story, I came to the conclusion that you were never very close to Scott, despite the fact you were both Navy Seals. Is that correct? How was your relationship with him before you both met Birdie?
Actually, Scott and I were close.
We got drunk together and had a blast whenever we went out. I loved him. I really did.But he was closer to Jenna ’cause they were twins.
He knew when to play and when to be serious. Something I’m still working on.

·      I have to admit that your family is 50 shades of crazy. But you all remained together even after many revelations came to light(especially in the second book)..How would you describe each member of your family?
My mother – fussy, unfair at times, scheming for sure. Unfair in that I am her favorite son. But years later, after I met my grandfather, I understood my mother a little more. She was fleeing her past and fighting her demons. Then I was glad I wasn’t too hard on her.
My father – a man of few words, but he’ my pillar of strength.
A decent human being.
Scott – A wonderful man, a true hero who didn’t deserve what life churned him.
Jenna – fucking nuts. You have to ask, Mia? No filter, a grenade with a loose pin. That’s Jenna.
But she has our backs and she’s got integrity. She has two personas; one that other people see and one that our family sees. She’s deep. Fair and has a strong need for justice.
But I’m curious as to why you’re calling my family crazy. Have you taken a good look at Bridie’s family? They’re cuckoo, you know. Seriously.

·        Let’s stay a bit longer on your mother. It was painfully clear that she didn’t like and couldn’t even tolerate Birdie, since she found out about her background. She was always quite mean to her, but no one seemed to put her in her place. My question is why didn’t you defend Birdie towards your mother? Why didn’t you stand up for her more?..
I agree with you about not defending Bridie. I should have, but …I didn’t know how without being disrespectful towards my mother.
You see, I really loved my mother and in spite of her behavior, I didn’t want to hurt her in any way.
But if you remember, I gave Bridie permission to handle my mother as she saw fit. Hey, what kind of a man would I be if I fought with my mother over my girlfriend? I wasn’t disrespectful in any way towards my mother because growing up, I was taught to respect my parents and I always did. I would hate for Samuel to disrespect Bridie because of his girlfriend. I wouldn’t allow it.

·        Let’s return to you now. You said that after being months away for your assignments, when you finally came back you just wanted to live it up. So you kept going out, partying. Sleeping around, drinking. I understand that after everything you went through there, you would like to have fun..Much fun..But all those damn body shots were they really necessary? Would you like to explain that a bit more?
Hey, Mia, body shots were the in thing at that time and I took full advantage of it. I never said “No” to girls asking to take a shot off my six-pack. I just couldn’t. I was weak when it came to women, but I got put in my place by Bridie.

·     Ok..So I liked the fact that you were very relentless and kept pursuing Birdie from the beginning..But when was the first time you realized that you loved her? That she was your IT girl?

·     Looking back, I think it was when Bridie said “No” to me. When she told me off. Most girls go gaga over me. She didn’t and I couldn’t understand it. I found that a real turn-on, even intriguing. When she wouldn’t fall into my bed, I saw my unborn children in her eyes. I wanted to marry her and grow old with her.

·        OK now for a last question..I’m just curious..How is the name Samuel significant to you?

I lost a dear friend, a former Navy Seal years ago. We were in a compromising position and somehow, he managed to escape. But he came back for me.As we escaped, we both were shot. I made it, he didn’t. I was cut when he died. By naming my son, Samuel, I felt his legacy would continue living. Somewhat.

Thank you for coming Cody!
You are welcome, Mia. You’re really pretty. Anytime you want to take a body shot of               me, feel free to. Kidding! Kidding!

Eh, let’s not tell Bridie about it though, okay?
I value my nuts. Know what I mean?

Mini Interview:

For JLA – Deity lets the Gods out of the bag.  Who’s your favorite God to write and why?  Apollo.   I just really enjoyed writing his character because of his personality.

For Alex – The vanishing act of Apollo is sorta fun but his timing can be annoying.  If he wasn’t a God and still pulled that trick, what would you do to him?  Oh, I would kick his ass.  I’m tempted to try it, God or not.

For Aiden – What was your reaction to finding out the truth about Leon? I was surprised, but given the situation in which I found out, I couldn’t even focus on Leon.  I was too focused on Alex at that moment.

For Apollo – Were there ever any times that you wanted to intervene but didn’t to protect your identity?  Yes, that girl needs a full time babysitter.  I tried to be around, especially when I knew Aiden wasn’t with her, and I did intervene a few times without revealing my identity.

Meet the Author

Kelly GendronKelly resides in a quiet suburb somewhere between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, NY. Her day job? Kelly works in health care representing a group of nursing facilities in the WNY area. She’s been faithfully writing for three years but did write her first book ten years ago. She put it down to raise her son as a single mom and then picked it back up when she and her son finally grew up. That's when she settled into her newly married adult life and started to seriously write again. She's dabbled with Romantic Suspense stories, but recently she's been on a contemporary kick. The recipe for the men in her stories: a dash of bad boy attitude, a cup of strong and confident and, of course, besides being packed with magnificent bodies, and doused with shameless aptitudes, they must have a tender heart you want to rip out of the pages (or your e-Reader) and take to bed with you at night.Excerpt

“Finish getting ready. We’re outta here in a few minutes,” he said, then turned his back to her. She struggled to retort from the total body meltdown. “Are we heading back to your apartment?” “Yes,” he said just as he disappeared from the doorway. “Good.” She raised her voice. “You can drop me off at the bus stop then.” Chase’s head swayed back in the doorway. “Come again?” “I’m going home, but I’ll be back in time for Caplin’s arrival on Thursday.”

Chase stepped back into the room. “Why do you want to go home?” The question caught her off guard. She’d assumed he’d be pleased to be rid of her. Nonetheless, telling him the truth wasn’t an option. “As you said, the only reason we needed to spend time together was so I could get to know you, so we can convince Caplin we’re married.” His forehead wrinkled. “And you feel like you know me now?” “Well enough to pull off a bullshit marriage, yes.” “Hmm.” He rubbed his chin, then dropped his hand and took a step toward her.

His intense regard held her captive. She clung to those dark eyes, waiting for him to say something. “I don’t want you to go.” His low, husky words resonated in her ears. Her body hesitated, her heart skipped, and her nerves stammered. She was convinced that all of her senses had failed her, because she was sure she hadn’t heard him right. “What?” “There’re a few more things you need to know about me in order to successfully pull this off, Jessina.” Every single one of her senses came back to life as he approached her. “Will you stay here with me just one more night?” he asked, stopping in front of her. “So I can show them to you?” “What?” Heat flushed through her body once more. “What sort of things?”

Dark, ravishing eyes dropped to her mouth as he drew a finger down the side of her cheek. It trailed along her neck, gently grazing her shoulder and caressing the length of her arm. “The sort of things I would do with my real wife.” He looked back up at her, his hand now settled on her hip. The weight of his touch caused her stomach to clench with desire. His hand shifted to the small of her back, and her next breath got caught in her throat. “I want to show you how my wife would make me feel when I’m this close to her.” He applied light pressure with his hand to her back, and the space between them descended. Their bodies became one. “Chase…” His name fell from her lips in a near whisper when his hardness pressed into her tight-with-desire belly. “Jessina…” he hissed back in a throaty murmur…

Losing Eva by Jennifer Sivec : The Blog Tour

Book: Losing Eva
Author: Jennifer Sivec
Genre:  Chick Lit/General Fiction

Synopsis:
Brynn Michael has endured a horrific life. Heartlessly abandoned as young Eva, she was abused and victimized by the selfishness of others. Her early life renders her unable to truly let go and love.

Despite everything, she finds her inner strength and overcomes. She allows herself to trust her childhood love, Adam. With the promise of having her own family, it looks as though Brynn may finally have the happiness that always seemed unattainable.

But life takes a tragic turn and once again, Brynn is forced to face a life in turmoil. Will the arrival of a handsome stranger help turn it around or make it worse?

When the past unexpectedly catches up with her, Brynn must decide if she will embrace it or move forward on her own. Is love and happiness within reach, or is her chance gone forever?

My Review:
Wow is the first word that comes to my mind now that I finished Losing Eva.

I’m not gonna lie..Most of the book was hard to read, because we are all human and don’t know how much we can take. I feel like Brynn’s life was cursed for some reason. She was so full of life. Yet tragedy came looking for her. She kept losing people she loved. She kept feeling betrayed by people she loved. She had so much love to give but I feel that she hasn’t had the chance to give it, because fate kept stealing them away.

I was so sad and frustrated while reading the whole book. People who didn’t deserve bad things had all the terrible things coming to them. I just believe that so many people in this book were hurt and devastated with no reason. Lives were destroyed by selfish people, who made awful decisions and never gave a damn about how those would affect the others.

To be honest, all this sadness has left me reeling. I kept thinking how in God’s name I would be able to articulate any sane sentence that actually made sense for my review.  Reviews are meant to reflect the book to the reader’s eyes. But what happens when the story is so overwhelming when you don’t even know yourself where you’re standing?

The last 2 pages gave me my answer. Hope. And Unconditional Love. That’s what Losing Eva is all about. When you love someone more than life itself, you NEVER give up. You NEVER let them go. You NEVER abandon them. And that’s what gave me the strength and the sanity I needed to write this review, despite the fact that I am in tears right now. This incredibly pure message.

I would like to finish my review with this.
I read a post about Losing Eva written by the author Jennifer Sivec. (You can find it here : http://jennifersivec.wordpress.com/2013/10/27/im-not-freaking-out-really/   ) It just stuck with me..

“ I feel that it’s not just My book. It’s Our book..”

Author Bio:
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember~journals, poems, short stories. I always wanted to write a novel and started several over the years, but for some reason I could never see them through to the end. Until Eva came along.
I was abandoned as a child, at about the age of 2 or 3 which I strangely never gave a lot of thought to. Then I became a mother. When my youngest child was about 2, I watched him sleeping one night as I often did. But this night, I was gripped by this heart-wrenching realization that he was about the age that I was when my parents left me. Something stirred inside of me, and eventually Eva was born. “Leaving Eva” began as a story of a girl who was heartlessly abandoned, and then her story took on a life of its own. It was no longer the story that I began, and it became something else entirely.
I’ve always been somewhat of a late bloomer, but I am happy to have finally gotten in touch with my inner Author. She’s always been there lying dormant inside of me, reflecting in other parts of my life. But now she is awake and alive, shining through me every day.
I am very fortunate to have a wonderful supportive husband, two beautiful children, and an incredible family. I have a career that is rewarding and challenging and I get to work with amazing, funny, talented people every day.
Writing has been an escape, a refuge, and an outlet for me. I feel so lucky to get to channel my energy and my creativity through my writing.

With the Eva Series left open for a possible third book, I am moving on to a couple of other projects that are currently in the works. I hope that my readers will continue to stay with me through my journey as I grown and evolve.  I am so grateful for the support I’ve received and the amazing people that I’ve encountered along the way!
