Genre: Adult Contemporary
Released: December 2014
Synopsis:
Moving on doesn’t always have
to mean goodbye.
Widowed makeup artist Jane
Sullivan is more comfortable keeping her husband’s memory alive than dating a
pool full of sharks. Ella, her 4 year-old daughter, is her whole world.
When Jane meets Lucas Oliver,
famous cover model, it’s hate at first sight. His playboy persona rubs her the
wrong way.
Accustomed
to every woman fawning over him, Lucas is drawn to the shy, uncompromising
single mom and completely melts at the sight of Ella.
He is determined to
convince Jane that sometimes a second chance can mend a broken heart.
Me Tarzan -- You Jane has a very intriguing storyline brought by wonderful characters in a different setting from what we are used to. I loved the synopsis and I was really excited about this book! However, my expectations must have been too high, as I encountered various issues with it.
As the synopsis states, when Jane meets Lucas, it is instant hatred. Every meeting they had was exceptionally funny and I enjoyed them all very much. They are definitely worth re-reading! Jane is a very strong-minded woman, with a very strong moral compass, and let me say, no patience. She insulted Lucas every time they met, as did he to her. It was entertaining and well written.
After a while, they got closer to each other. Jane discovered there's more to Lucas than he lets on. He actually is a very decent guy, who believes in the good in people. He gives second chances to everyone and he makes Ella happy. Plus, he's not so bad-looking anyway! However, I did not read of any pursuit. We read about Jane's feelings and attraction, but we didn't see any flirting. What I missed the most was that growing romance between the two characters. I didn't read any sexy comments and innuendos from Lucas, hinting at he wants Jane. And then, tragedy strikes Lucas and he is that vulnerable, sweet guy instead of that jerk we saw in the beginning, who needs Jane. And Boom! They are together! And they stay together for a long while...
At this point, I am confused, as everything felt rushed. I didn't realize we had pushed forward in our timeline and that Lucas and Jane were happy together. We didn't see them in a date or a romantic dinner or something.
What frustrated me was that Cameron came with a certain woman (details will not be added, as they would be considered spoiler!). How did that happen? When?
There was a certain section in the book that confused and frustrated me. That was because I actually loved the characters and the story. Up until Lucas's tragedy moment, everything was so smooth and beautiful. Then. things got rushed and omitted and as a reader, I felt robbed of something that could have been an exceptional book.
But, things got really good afterwards. The story changed pace again -thankfully- and we saw lots of good stuff. The ending was emotional, intense and it did justice to the book and characters.
Congratulations to the author for creating such a story and such amazing characters!
PS
If the book were given a second chance and complimentary material was added to it, I strongly believe that this book could be perfect!
About the author:
I WRITE. I LIVE. I LOVE. I
DREAM. I WRITE.
I’m a dreamer
I’m a sinner
I love my books
I conjure hooks
And heroes with good looks
Romance is my guilty pleasure
Taking me to places with new
decor
Come join me if you dare
I promise not to bore
If you like to read my stories
Pray my husband continues
snorin’
For he’s the one who keeps me
up at night
When I give my heroes wings
