Synopsis:
Sixteen years is a long time to wait for your true love to reappear, and, anyway, Nicki Johnson couldn’t wait for the impossible to happen. Hard life lessons have taught her that fairy tales are children’s stories, and fate is cruel. Burying her hopes, she’s spent the last sixteen years focused and driven toward her career, and it’s landed her with a job at the White House with a gem of a boyfriend.
But when her high school love, Adam Kincaid, walks into the White House as a BBC reporter, Nicki’s world is thrown into turmoil as she relives their past. Adam has come back for her, but has he arrived too late?
My Review:
Beside your heart is
simply a very beautiful love story..Both books of the series are so beautifully
written and the story itself is so sweet and adorable that you can do nothing
more than read it and love it with all of your heart..
In the first book, we
saw how everything began..How Nicki and Adam met, fell in love, fought and made
love once more..We read about 2 young people who dealt with everything that
came their way and came out stronger..We read about 2 young people who were
just beginning to find themselves and discover where in this world they
belong..
In the ending, we saw
the first time they saw each other after all these years by Adam’s point of view.
I loved that for so many reasons! First of all, it was a brilliant transition
from the first book to the second and from the past to the present..Second of
all, I enjoyed that because it’s always so interesting to see what’s happening
from both points of view, the female and the male version..
Now, in the second book
Nicki and Adam meet again with Adam’s help of course..And I LOVED that..He’s
fighting for her in a way he hasn’t before..As a man who loves his lady and he
wants her back..Forever..He may not appear so sure, but I think he is..You
don’t change jobs just to see if there’s still spark between you and your high
school sweetheart, now do you? I didn’t think so either..Anyway..We see their
obstacles both professionally and individually..
Regarding the book..
It’s beautiful
written…It is a wonderful story that I adored and I will probably read again
many times in the future..I loved the thoughts the characters had..The ups and
downs..It felt like a real situation
based on a fairytale..It was really remarkable!
About our main characters..
>>Nicki has grown
up and has turned into a sophisticated intelligent beautiful independent woman.
She has her dream job and she’s excellent at it…She has built a successful and
fulfilling life (you’ll understand this better, once you read the book and find
out more about her)! She never really forgot Adam and when he comes back for
her, she loses a bit of her self-confidence around him..xoxo
I really enjoyed the
fact that she’s entirely clueless about Adam’s feelings..Of course, she always
was like that..But it’s so amusing and sweet to see it again in this book..I
really enjoyed her character in both books, actually..
>>Adam has become
a great man..I loved his jealousy and his possessiveness…I loved the way he
pursued her..Because Adam is also turning into a teenager when it comes to
Nicki..No matter how many years pass them by..
He’s stubborn and
persistent and a man worthy of a woman like her..
A beautiful story written in a beautiful way….
I have the pleasure to introduce you to Mr Adam Kincaid, since he's here for an interview!!
Welcome to my place,
Adam! Thank you for coming! It’s a pleasure to meet you! How are you? Nervous
or excited?
Hello, Mia. Thank you for the invitation. I’m a bit
nervous, really. Journalists prefer asking the questions.
Let’s go to memory lane
for a while..Can you describe the first time you met Nicki?
My, that was some time ago. I believe we were in the
school cafeteria. She was adorably shy, and unfortunately, her boyfriend at the
time interrupted the conversation. *chuckles* The bastard.
What was your happiest
memory from those times?
I’d have to say it was that Valentine’s Day we spent
together. It was perfect.
Do you regret letting
all those years pass by without any contact with Nicki? You must have missed
her very much..How did you cope with that?
*sigh* I think we had to be apart so we could be
together again. That said, I missed her terribly. I coped with it by telling
myself if she wanted anything at all to do with me, she’d seek me out. It was a
silly thing to say because I knew it was untrue. Nicki is such a strong person
she can stop herself from doing something she actually wants to.
Can you describe what
was going on in your mind and heart when you first saw her again after all
those years?
It was surreal. My high school self was elated to see
her again, while my adult self was looking at her objectively and finding her
attractive in every way.
Before you admit your
feelings to Nicki, you did a very good job hiding your reactions to some umm
things…Like, when she told you she had a boyfriend she was going to live with
or when she told you that he asked her to marry him…Just a twitch here and
there but we didn’t see a major reaction..So how were you reacting on the
inside? Please feel free to reveal your
most violent thoughts..We like it!
Now, I can’t say too much about that or no one will
read my book when it comes out in the
spring. I will say that I was devastated, but prepared. David had warned me she
was probably taken.
Saying you and Dan don’t
get along would be an understatement..But why is that? I agree he didn’t seem
to be a nice guy at all, but why this animosity?
I suppose there’s some competition between two male
reporters of a certain age. Additionally, he’s everything I loathe about
American journalism. He’s shallow and fake with a preoccupation with
appearances and a penchant for bravado.
In some point, your
taste in women was challenged…You answered that your taste wasn’t good only
when you were waiting for her to turn around..Why did you date women like Muff
or Felicity? They are so callous and petty…I’m
sure there were better women to date..
I’m sorry I know Nicki was the first to raise the
issue, but if I answer that question I’m only going to get in trouble with her.
It’s really all water under the bridge, regardless. I’m happily and permanently
off the market.
Your decision to leave
your job was made very easily from your part..Didn’t you hesitate at all?
No. Not when I saw what I was getting in return.
I was wondering about
something else..We know how your family feels about Nicki but how does her
family feel about you?
Of course, they were skeptical given what happened
between Nicki and me when we were young. I believe they’ve warmed up to me now.
Quitting your job for someone is a sign that you’re serious about a future with
that person.
Finally, I won’t ask you
about your future because I’m sure it entails NICKI…**chuckling But I will ask you to describe her to us..Some few
words to capture her essence to the best of your ability, since you know her so
well..
Lovely, quirky, funny, shrewd, strong, and sexy as
hell.
Thank you, Mia. You’ve been a fantastic interviewer!
Thank you Adam for coming!! You can return to your Nicki now...
Author bio:
Even before she graduated from law school, Mary knew she wasn't cut out to be a real lawyer. Drawn to politics, she's spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive. Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together. A born Midwesterner, naturalized Texan, and transient resident of Washington, D.C., Mary now lives in Northern California with her two daughters and real lawyer husband.
Beside Your Heart #1 : My Review
Beside your heart is a
beautiful story..There’s no other better description than that..Whether Mary
writes about them when they were younger or when they’re adults, Adam and Nicki’s
story is truly beautiful..
It’s sweet and romantic.
Yet it’s real it feels real..It’s not cheesy or too “sweet”..It doesn’t have
petty drama. It consists of real issues, real tragedies and real people who
face those tragedies..It’s innocent and it’s so unbelievably true..It speaks to
your heart, even if you’re a teenager and even if you’re an adult..
Mary manages to capture
our attention and hearts with a story that’s unique on the one hand and
familiar on the other..The book has remarkable writing..But to be honest, the
story is the highlight..
Beautiful and Romantic. Innocent and
Real.
