Book: Jake Undone
Author: Penelope Ward
Genre: Romance/Contemporary/New Adult
Publication Date: October 21st,2013
Synopsis:
Nina Kennedy was alive…but not
living…until she met him.
Planes, trains, heights…you
name it, Nina was afraid of it and led a sheltered life ruled by irrational
fears and phobias. When she moves to Brooklyn for nursing school, that life is
turned upside down, as she develops an intense but unwanted attraction to her
gorgeous roommate, who’s pierced, tattooed and just happens to be the smartest
person she’s ever met.
Behind Jake Green’s rough
exterior and devilish smile, lies a heart of gold. He makes it his mission to
change Nina’s outlook on life. When he agrees to tutor her, they forge a bet
and the stakes are high as Jake forces Nina to face her demons. He just wasn’t
expecting to fall hard for her in the process.
What Nina doesn’t realize, is
that Jake has been living his own private hell. Once he drops a bombshell, will
their love survive it?
Told in two parts from both Nina and Jake’s points
of view, Jake Undone is a standalone story and a companion to the novel,
Gemini.
My Review:
Ah Jake from Jake
Undone..What a strong man he is…Oops, dreaming again…Sorry..Back to reviewing!
Jake Undone is another
brilliant novel from Penelope Ward…You know it’s like when you try a new brand
and it comes out extremely awesome so you keep buying products from it?..That’s
exactly the case with Penelope! Both novels are powerful, emotional and pierce
your soul..Different stories but same quality…
There are literally
countless things I love about this one, but I will try to sum them up for you…
The first thing that
comes to mind is this quote from the book: “Let’s go downstairs to Eleni’s. My
treat. Phenomenal Greek food.” One: I’m half-Greek Two: One of my mum’s names
is Eleni….My jaw dropped to the floor when I read it and then I was laughing
like crazy..It’s almost like Penelope has a sixth sense or something..And if you read my interview with her, you
will see that her special ability makes itself known quite regularly..
I just love the Prologue…Not
going to say anything more because I don’t want to spoil it for you, but I had
to state it..
Plus, I loved all the comments/thoughts
that Nina had! It was priceless to hear her say one thing but think something
entirely different..For example, when she was describing Jake to
someone..PRICELESS!!
I also loved Penelope’s
creativity regarding the names of her characters!! Nina, Tarah and Alistair?
Let’s not forget about Eleni, of course…I really like it when the characters
have rare names..It gives a special aura to the book…
Jake and Nina were
attracted to each other since the first time they met. That is a given. But
they became best friends, too. That is what I loved in their relationship. Of
course, Jake was hot the one minute and cold the other. But they were indeed
best friends! They knew each other well, their thinking process, preferences.
They simply knew each other. Of course, Chicago was a massive stepping stone.
They bonded in that place in a way I cannot even begin to describe. However,
Christmas was the event that triggered a response and set everything in motion…Vague enough?
Anyway…I will stop
rambling now…
I would like to finish
with this..
Jake Undone will leave
you breathless..It’s a brilliant novel, so intense that you’re going to feel
ready to explode..Its energy is vibrating..Complications and events will make your
heart stop and your eyes tear up..Jake and Nina will steal your heart and there’s
nothing you can do about it….
PS
As you may know, My Skylar
is Penelope’s next novel and it will be about Skylar, a character from Jake
Undone..Skylar is a spectacular young girl and you will fall in love with her
instantly! I guarantee that! She plays a vital role in this book..In fact, I
would call her the Breakthrough Star of the Jake Undone…
I had the outmost pleasure to have Penelope Ward for an interview and see her point of view...She's really remarkable! You can see it HERE !!!

But his selfish heart had other plans. Feeling compelled to know her before revealing himself, he makes her believe their meetings are coincidental.

My Review:
Gemini Oh Gemini…..If I
said that I love this book, it would be an understatement..
I am warning you,
because now that I’m gonna start praising this brilliant book I’m not sure if
and when I’m going to stop. Just giving you a fair warning is all……
Gemini is what I call
the epitome of a great book. It has an excellent story, great characters and
amazing writing. The story is both romantic and mysterious with depth and
meaning. The characters are interesting, intriguing and easy to love at first
sight. The writing is both formal and informal. By this I mean that Penelope
Ward’s writing is impeccable, accurate, smart but also fun and romantic. The
way she says her story is serious, heavy with significance, but also
compassionate and sympathetic. The way she introduces her characters and let us
get to know them is sweet, fun and absolutely addictive! Her writing entails
the perfect combination of seriousness and romance, mystery and love.
There’s not a thing I
would change……
>>Allison is an
amazing admirable young woman. Her life was full of love and support until
everything changed. She lost her mother, her studies, her boyfriend and she
lost her purpose, as she claimed. During that, she met Cedric, who ignited
something inside her that she didn’t know it existed. Her heart is golden and
her soul is pure. She lacks any mean and negative emotions…She’s the perfect
girl and I wish she were real..
But Cedric has lied to
her repeatedly. His betrayal cut her deeply and she felt lost and alone and
confused. Her life has changed once more, but her path was unknown. So she left
everything behind and tried to adjust to the new parameters that fast became
very loved. Then, she knew she felt what was right. She knew what she wanted
and returned with fierce determination.
You know, it’s ok to
feel lost. It’s ok to take some time to figure things out, to determine the
path you want to follow. She didn’t run away; She ran to herself. When you feel
lost, the first thing you need to do is to rediscover yourself. And she did
that. But when that happened, she took action again and claimed what was hers.
I loved Allison and
everything about her..I loved reading about her in this book and I loved
reading about her in Jake Undone..Who am I kidding? I love Penelope’s novels,
end of story!
>>Cedric is great
man despite his lies and/or mistakes. I didn’t really blame him for what
happened with Amanda (you’ll read all about her, not gonna tell you a thing
about her!!) and I don’t exactly blame him for lying. Of course, it wasn’t
right, but it wasn’t entirely wrong either. Who can blame a guy who only wants
to get to know a girl? And her to get to know him, without the burdens the past
bestows..It’s a tricky situation..
In any case, Cedric is
an amazing character. And oh hell, I love his name and I love saying his name,
silently in my mind and out loud..Don’t judge me now…
And don’t hold the
length of the review against me..I warned you, remember?
Gemini is one of my
favorite books of all time and Penelope Ward has inserted herself to my
heart..She is an outstanding author, who will continue to shine and offer us
more amazing novels..
